ArcelorMittal Poland continues its investments in Świętochłowice. Soon, the branch's installations will be powered by a photovoltaic farm

ArcelorMittal Poland has decided to build a photovoltaic farm in its Świętochłowice branch – the former Florian Steelworks. This is another project, after the launch of the regenerative thermal afterburner and the rapid cooling system of sheet metal, carried out at this plant.

As early as September 2026, the energy powering the installations of ArcelorMittal Poland's branch in Świętochłowice will be produced by a 1 MW photovoltaic farm. The company has already obtained a building permit, and a tender is currently underway to select a contractor. The schedule of the project assumes that construction will begin in the second quarter of 2026 and will last six months.

- This is the first photovoltaic farm in ArcelorMittal Poland. We are glad that it is being built in Świętochłowice –  a plant that combines many years of history and metallurgical traditions with modernity – says Marek Adamczyk, director of the Świętochłowice branch. – This is the culmination of an investment package worth almost PLN 50 million, which we implemented in our branch last year, focusing on environmental protection, quality and product development, as well as reliability – he adds.

Three investments for PLN 50 million

The amount of PLN 50 million includes three projects. The first of them was the launch of a regenerative thermal afterburner on the line of coating sheet metal with varnishes. Thanks to it, ArcelorMittal Poland in Świętochłowice, m.in, reduced natural gas consumption by half – This translated into a reduction in CO2 emissions by 50 percent – explains Adam Kramorz, support manager at the plant. The second undertaking was the installation of a device for fast cooling of sheet metal on the galvanizing line. This innovative solution was designed by the ArcelorMittal Group's R&D team in Liège, Belgium. - The installation, currently in the testing phase, will translate into better properties of the sheet metal produced in our branch, from which roof tiles are made, for example  - informs Rafał Rączka, project manager. The third task was the replacement of the lining of the galvanizing bath, completed in June this year.

"The decision to build a photovoltaic farm in Świętochłowice is an important step towards modernity and sustainable development of our city. I am glad that ArcelorMittal Poland consistently invests here, combining metallurgical tradition with innovation and care for the environment. This is proof that Świętochłowice is a reliable local government partner and a good place to do business and implement ambitious projects of the future" - sums up Daniel Beger, Mayor of Świętochłowice.

The ArcelorMittal Poland plant in Świętochłowice is a well-known manufacturer of sheets coated with zinc and organic coatings, i.e. varnishes. Metal roof tiles made of sheet metal produced here can be found on the roofs of many buildings not only in Poland, but also abroad.
