ArcelorMittal Poland modernizes the dedusting system of the argon station in Dąbrowa Górnicza steel plant

The modernization of the dedusting system of the argon station begins in the Dąbrowa Górnicza steel plant. Thanks to this investment, ArcelorMittal Poland will reduce its environmental impact and improve the comfort of work in the steel plant hall. The cost of the investment will exceed PLN 30 million. This is another large investment in this plant after the recently completed modernization of Maerz furnaces. Thanks to it, particulate emissions from the lime plant have been reduced by as much as 5 times. The total cost of these two investments limiting the impact of the steelworks on the environment is over PLN 70 million.

In the Dąbrowa Górnicza steel plant there are four stations for argonization, i.e. for the pre-treatment of steel. Argonization improves the surface quality and structure of steel, as well as increases its strength, and thus also the strength of the final steel product.

Modernization of the dedusting of the argon station consists in installing a special hood above each of the vats. It will absorb dust and then discharge it through a pipeline system to a bag filter.

“Currently, design work is underway, which we plan to complete in the first quarter of this year. Then we will start the prefabrication and construction stage" informs Rafał Gębski, project manager from the Dąbrowa branch. A new bag filter will be built in the steel plant, along with electrics, automation and software. Dust pipelines and the entire transport system will also be replaced.

"Sustainable steel production is a huge challenge today that we take up every day. The decarbonisation of our industry will not happen overnight, it will be a long-term, complicated and costly process. That is why at our smelter in Dąbrowa Górnicza we reduce our environmental impact in ongoing processes ," emphasizes Wojciech Koszuta, chairman and CEO of ArcelorMittal Poland. "Modernization of the argonation station dedusting system will bring a number of benefits: greater comfort of work for our employees, greater production efficiency for our company, and reduced environmental impact of the smelter and all of us for local residents and all of us" he adds.

The modernization of the dedusting of the argonizing station in the steel plant is to be completed later this year. The project will cost over PLN 30 million.
