Nearly 3.8 million tons of steel. This is how much ArcelorMittal Poland produced last year – that's as much as the weight of nearly 1,100,000 small excavators! In 2024, thanks to the implemented electricity saving projects, the company reduced energy consumption by nearly 73 thousand MWh. This would be enough to power over 36 thousand households throughout the year. The company summarizes all its activities in the area of production, environmental protection and social activities in 2024 in the recently published sustainability report.
W 2024 roku ArcelorMittal obchodził 20-lecie obecności w Polsce. Dwie dekady In 2024, ArcelorMittal celebrated the 20th anniversary of its presence in Poland. Two decades of modernization of the Polish steel industry, during which ArcelorMittal invested over PLN 10.5 billion in the modernization of Polish plants. This allowed to reduce dust emissions by 90 percent, CO2 emissions by 42 percent and energy consumption by 40 percent.
We use, we don't throw away
ArcelorMittal Poland, instead of throwing away, processes, recovers and reuses by-products. The coke oven batteries in the coking plant in Zdzieszowice are fired with coke oven gas generated in the process. Waste gases from blast furnaces are reused in the process thanks to the recently completed construction of a heat recovery plant. This innovative technology contributes to a significant reduction in CO2 emissions and improved energy efficiency in the pig iron smelting process. It will bring measurable benefits: reduction of CO2 emissions by 56 thousand tons per year, energy recovery at the level of 117 GWh per year, reduction of coke consumption by nearly 10 thousand tons per year. As a result, the smelter does not waste waste heat, but reuses it in the blast furnace process. In addition, the company processed 324,498 tonnes of slag at its Kraków branch and used 753,012 tonnes of scrap to produce steel in Dąbrowa Górnicza.
As every year, ArcelorMittal Poland focuses on Polish suppliers and supports local companies. Coke comes in 100 percent from Polish suppliers, fluxes - in 90 percent, and coal - in 80 percent.
20 years: 1000 social projects for PLN 25 million
