ArcelorMittal Poland has allocated over half a million zlotys to help flood victims

ArcelorMittal Poland has been implementing social projects for years. Their value over 20 years amounted to PLN 24 million. In September this year, just after the flood, ArcelorMittal Poland purchased and sent to the Opole region equipment for removing the effects of flooding for the amount of PLN 70,000. Now the company will support the reconstruction of flooded infrastructure in two municipalities – in the Silesian and Lesser Poland Voivodeships with the amount of PLN 500 thousand.

ArcelorMittal has been supporting local communities since the beginning of its presence in Poland. The largest steel producer in the country, with plants in the Silesian, Lesser Poland and Opole provinces, has already spent PLN 24 million for this purpose. The areas that are important to him are, m.in, health, safety, education and environmental protection. Given this long-term commitment, the company could not remain indifferent to the needs resulting from the effects of the floods that have recently affected the inhabitants of the provinces in which it operates. ArcelorMittal Poland has allocated PLN 500 thousand for this support.

Two projects in the municipalities of the Silesian and Lesser Poland Voivodeships

In the municipality of Jasienica in the Silesian Voivodeship, the company will support the reconstruction of a school playground destroyed by flood with PLN 450,000, and in the municipality of Brzeszcze in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship with PLN 50,000 - the retrofitting of the Voluntary Fire Service units.

- On a daily basis, we are involved in activities supporting local communities, so we do it all the more in the face of a natural disaster. We are sure that the reconstruction of the school playground from the School and Kindergarten Complex in Jasienica is a good investment, because it will enable the promotion of sport and a healthy lifestyle among its residents," says Wojciech Koszuta, CEO of ArcelorMittal Poland.  "Support for the Voluntary Fire Service units is also a natural step for us, because our overriding value as a company is safety," he adds.

The outburst from the banks of the Jasienica stream near the School and Kindergarten Complex in Jasienica caused a lot of damage to the school premises and the sports facility located on the school premises.

- After the flood that affected our community, the activities of the municipality have become extremely important for the reconstruction of local life. The pitch, which was destroyed, was not only used for the game, but also integrated the residents and supported a healthy lifestyle. The reconstruction of this place is a step towards regaining joy and activity in our surroundings. Thanks to these efforts, among other things, residents will again be able to spend time together, organize sports events and enjoy physical activity, which is crucial for the reconstruction of not only infrastructure, but also interpersonal relationships in our municipality – said Janusz Pierzyna, the mayor of the Jasienica commune.

Material support and volunteering

The reconstruction of the sports infrastructure in Jasienica and the support of the fire brigade in the Brzeszcze municipality is not the first reaction of ArcelorMittal Poland in the face of this year's natural disaster. In September this year, just after the flood, ArcelorMittal Poland purchased and sent to the Opole region equipment for removing the effects of flooding worth PLN 70,000. The company purchased, among m.in, power generators, motor pumps, air dryers and painting articles, which were delivered to the Krapkowice district, mainly by the Social Welfare Centre. In turn, chemicals for cleaning, disinfection and drying, power generators, gas heaters and gas cylinders purchased by ArcelorMittal Poland were sent to Głuchołazy.

Material support from ArcelorMittal Poland was accompanied by collections of donations carried out in all six branches of the company, as well as actions of volunteers - employees who rushed to help flood victims in removing the effects of flooding. The gifts collected by the employees were donated to the flood victims in the Krapkowice district and in Lewin Brzeski in the Opole region. ArcelorMittal Poland also provided material support to flooded children's homes in Czechowice-Dziedzice and Kłodzko. In turn, volunteers from ArcelorMittal Poland's plants in Zdzieszowice and Świętochłowice helped to remove the effects of floods in Głuchołazy, Ołdrzychowice and Chomiąża.
