The Krakow steelworks is making an international career. The CNN team visited the branch of ArcelorMittal Poland in Nowa Huta

New hydrogen furnaces and Europe's most modern hot rolling mill from ArcelorMittal Poland's Krakow branch are the protagonists of the latest episode of the "Marketplace Europe" program, which debuted on CNN International last Saturday.

The popular "Marketplace Europe" program shows business trends and the situation of European economies. In the episode devoted to the economic situation in Poland, the Krakow branch of ArcelorMittal Poland played. The authors raised the subject of the economic transformation of our country and outlined the current situation of the steel industry on the Old Continent.

The episode features Wojciech Koszuta, chairman and CEO of ArcelorMittal Poland, and Łukasz Skorupa, director of the Krakow branch of ArcelorMittal Poland.

The three-person CNN team visited Krakow at the beginning of August. The spectacular views in the hot rolling mill, the slabs coming out of the walking beam furnace and the rolling process itself delighted the guests from the London branch of the station. They were no less impressed by the hydrogen furnaces in the annealing room of the cold rolling mill. These, although without fire and high temperature, delighted with their size, and the transfer of the circles using a huge electromagnet was really spectacular.

“It was fascinating seeing how the 70-year history of the plant coexists with the new cutting-edge technology, and hearing about the urgent challenges of today’s steel industry. This was my first time witnessing the scale and speed of a steel rolling mill, not to mention that intense heat” - said CNN correspondent Clare Sebastian after visiting the steelworks.

The episode will air several times this month on CNN International.

"This is the second visit of the CNN team to our Krakow steelworks – the first time it was in the spring of 2013, when the legendary CNN correspondent Richard Quest interviewed the then chairman of ArcelorMittal Poland – Sanjay Samaddar – reminds Sylwia Winiarek-Erdoğan, spokesperson and director of communication and local dialogue. - This interest proves that the Kraków branch is still an important place on the map of the European steel industry, and its assortment and investments attract the attention of the business world" - she concludes.
