Over PLN 24.5 million of support for residents, 1000 social projects and 9000 jobs. Two decades of ArcelorMittal's social activity in Poland

People. They are the foundation of every company. For ArcelorMittal Poland, they are irreplaceable, and although automation is entering every area of life, in the metallurgical concern, it is people, not machines, who produce steel, without which there is no modern world. Employees firstly, neighbours secondly. The company also works for the benefit of local communities, supporting projects in the cities where it operates.

Since 2004, ArcelorMittal Poland has been continuously supporting the residents of Dąbrowa Górnicza, Chorzów, Świętochłowice, Sosnowiec, Kraków and Zdzieszowice. Sometimes in small projects, sometimes in large and important projects for the region.

- For two decades, as a company, we have supported over 1000 social projects. We have allocated over PLN 24.5 million for this purpose, and every year we implement new joint initiatives ," says Wojciech Koszuta, CEO and Member of the Management Board of ArcelorMittal Poland.

It is impossible to count the number of small projects, but it is worth emphasizing those that can save people's lives and health. Cooperation with local hospitals is one of the most important activities of the concern in Poland. Only last year, together with the ArcelorMittal Poland Health Protection Foundation operating at the company, it purchased a modern digital mammography machine for one million zlotys, which allowed to expand the offer of cancer prevention at the Zagłębie Oncology Center.

The company supports not only the area dedicated to health, but also the education of children, helps in the implementation of projects for people with disabilities, the elderly or the excluded. It works for animals, cooperating with shelters, improves safety in the regions by supporting local branches of the Voluntary Fire Service and the State Fire Service, and co-finances amateur sports teams.

"This year marks 20 years since I started working at ArcelorMittal Poland. I have seen the changes that have taken place in the company over these two decades, especially in the process of building relationships with local communities - with our neighbors, on whom we have a huge influence. From the very beginning, we wanted to support them, but it must be made clear that they were the ones who often showed us the direction in which our cooperation should go, suggested what else we could do for the cities in which we operate. This cooperation was not always easy, but we have always respected each other ," notes Karolina Muza-Adamiec, Head of the Campus and People & Culture Manager at ArcelorMittal Poland. "Looking back, I can confidently say that I am proud of what we have achieved together. I am also glad that we help not only as a company, but also our wonderful volunteers, who selflessly, in their free time, carry out a number of valuable initiatives," he adds.

Cooperation with local communities and authorities is one of the company's priorities. "ArcelorMittal is not only one of the most important employers in our city, but also a partner for development. The company's investments are a guarantee of Sosnowiec's prosperity for many years. I am glad that we can build the future of our city together," says Arkadiusz Chęciński, Mayor of the City of Sosnowiec.

For 20 years, people have been the most important thing for ArcelorMittal Poland. Neighbors, but above all employees. It is them, their knowledge, experience and commitment that have allowed us to build the reputation and develop the company's offer. The company employs over 9000 people in six locations and 2000 in cooperating companies, and each job in the steel industry generates six jobs in related industries. "Although there is still a belief that our industry employs mainly men, our strength is also women, who make up 10 percent of the entire workforce, and this number continues to grow ," notes Stanisław Ból, HR Director at ArcelorMittal Poland. "And these are not only office positions: we have great crane operators, locomotive drivers, line managers or directors. These are very important and responsible positions. Together we make a diverse but well-coordinated team ," he concludes.
