The replacement of basic oxygen furnace no. 3 is currently underway in the steel plant in Dąbrowa Górnicza Unit. This is the third new converter, which will be in operation in the plant. The new converter was inserted into a work station on the 20th of November. A dedicated control devices for the new basic oxygen furnace are currently being installed. The cold commissioning is scheduled for the beginning of December and the first heat of steel is expected to take place around December 12th.
Replacement and modernization of the converter is executed as a turnkey contract. The project, which includes disassembling of the old basic oxygen furnace and assembling a new unit, will be implemented by a consortium led by PRIMETALS Austria and ZKS Ferrum from Katowice.

The assembly of the new basic oxygen furnace took place on November 20. Weighing up to 700 tonnes, the steel giant has been transported to its final destination with the use of two overhead cranes with the capacity of 500 tonnes each. An identical operations took place at ArcelorMittal Poland in 2014 and 2016, when, respectively, the replacement of BOF no. 2 and BOF no. 1 took place.
