XI edition of ArcelorMittal Poland’s half marathon – walking and running for a noble cause

On 8th of April, nearly 1200 runners from Poland and abroad, as well as 200 Nordic walking amateurs took part in the ArcelorMittal Poland’s half marathon in Dąbrowa Górnicza. It was the eleventh edition of the run, and a great opportunity to support „I run for Karolina and Maja” charity event, organized by PKO Bank Polski.

The participants, among which were many employees of ArcelorMittal Poland, started running from the stadium in Ujejsce, finishing at the 21st kilometre in front of the multiarena “Centrum” in Dąbrowa Górnicza. Kenyan runner Kimaiyo Hillary Kiptum Maiyo won the competition with the best time of 1 hour 7 minutes and 47 seconds. Among employees from ArcelorMittal Poland Bernard Rzepka from Zdieszowice Unit reached the finish line 12th.  

Nordic walking amateurs competed in 5-km race-walk, starting at the Pogoria III lake and heading to the sports arena “Centrum”. Piotr Niechwiejczyk from Świętochłowice won in this category and Mariusz Wróbel from the Unit in Zdzieszowice dashed to a fourth-place. Among women, Dorota Bagińska from Sławków finished with the best time.

- For the 6th time now, ArcelorMittal Poland is the main sponsor of the event, which became a permanent fixture in the company's cultural calendar. – We are not only co-organizing the run, but we also participate actively! This year, 70 ArcelorMittal Poland’s employees from all units decided to join the event. It is a very pleasant feeling to accomplish such a challenging run and receive a commemorative medal at the finish line – says Karolina Muza-Adamiec, Head of Corporate Responsibility, ArcelorMittal Poland.

Since many years now, the half marathon in Dąbrowa Górnicza is one of the most popular and important amateur running events in the region.
