Together for Gołonóg. Apple trees, cherry trees and fragrant pines decorated residents’ backyards

Thanks to a tree planting event, organized by ArcelorMittal Poland and the NGO Green Gołonóg, residents of Gołonóg can now enjoy more than 100 trees of different types and around 300 boxwood shrubs. They will now observe and appreciate how apple trees, cherry trees and pines grow under their windows bearing fruits and cones.

- Our association organizes and initiates actions for local communities aimed at improving infrastructure, cleanliness and social activity – says Piotr Zieliński, chairman of Green Gołonóg Association. - As non-governmental organization, together with our partners like ArcelorMittal Poland, we want to give an example how to care for the environment and the greenery, which surrounds us at squares and housing estates in Dąbrowa Górnicza – he adds.

The tree planting event in Gołonóg is not the first “green action” supported by ArcelorMittal Poland. The company planted more than 600,000 trees in total and has been participating since many years in numerous initiatives of the local associations and educational institutions.

- We are pleased to be able to support the initiatives, to which residents and social activists are gladly committed to – says Sylwia Winiarek, spokeswoman of ArcelorMittal Poland. - We are keen to participate actively in community life in the cities where our plants are located – she adds.

The events we are undertaking together with the residents, and which are dedicated to them, are just one of many environmentally-friendly activities conducted by the plant in Dąbrowa Górnicza. A major investments are currently underway in ArcelorMittal Poland Unit in Dąbrowa Górnicza. They will enable to adjust the industrial installations to comply with new environmental requirements, resulting from EU directive on industrial emissions (IED), which the plant needs to meet by the middle of the year. The total value of all projects, expected to be completed this year, exceeds PLN 700 m.

- Reducing the environmental footprint of our processes is our top priority. The on-going investments will allow us to comply with the European environmental requirements on industrial emissions, and most importantly, to meet the expectations of Dąbrowa Górnicza residents in reducing our environmental footprint – says Geert Verbeeck, vice president and CEO of ArcelorMittal Poland.
